Moon

At only 11 years old, Moon was diagnosed with cancer in his left eye (Squamous cell carcinoma and Eosinophilic Keratitis). While he was otherwise healthy, this painful condition greatly affected Moon’s day-to-day quality of life and required the eye’s removal. The need for this expensive treatment is what necessitated Moon’s transition to CHR. Trained to ride on trails with experience on a dude ranch, we were happy to give this friendly and agreeable little horse the surgery he needed to get back on his feet. Moon arrived in January, and was quickly scheduled with CSU’s ambulatory veterinary team to have the eye removed at CHR. He was a star patient, and the procedure went smoothly. We then waited 8 weeks for Moon to heal and recover; he spent two weeks in a bandage, and the remaining time under a protective fly mask. By April, Moon had completely recovered from surgery! Much to everyone’s delight, we were then able to turn him back out to pasture and grant him full exercise. Today, Moon is under evaluation with our riding team, and his fitness is improving. We are so excited to find this one-of-a-kind horse his forever home. He’ll be the perfect addition to the right family!
